The material in the medicine package is not as simple as you think.
The four basic components of the blister package are the molding film, the capping material, the heat sealing coating and the printing ink. In the United States, the most common blister wrap is made of foil, film, paper, or a variety of materials attached to a sheet of hot-formed plastic foam. The formed film accounts for about 80-85% of the blister wrap, and the covering material accounts for 15-20% of the total weight of the package. Because the molding film and the capping material form a complete package, they must match exactly.
Plastic molded films such as PVC, polypropylene (PP) and polyester (PET) can be thermoformed, but support materials containing aluminum are cold-formed. The resulting film is usually colorless and clear, but can become blurred when used to safely package children or protect photosensitive medications. Bubble wrap molding mesh is almost always PVC, sometimes coated or laminated with additional components to enhance oxygen and water vapor barrier.
