Automotive Aluminum Sheet Surges 300% in 2025

May 31, 2025

1. Demand side: policy and technology dual-wheel drive

New energy vehicle sales target pressure

China's "New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan" clearly states that the penetration rate of new energy vehicles will reach 20% in 2025, driving the amount of aluminum used in a single vehicle to 280kg (fuel vehicles are only 140kg).

A pure electric vehicle can increase its range by 2.5 kilometers by reducing its weight by 10kg, and the lightweight advantage of aluminum sheet is irreplaceable.

Global market accelerates expansion

In 2025, the global automotive aluminum sheet market is expected to exceed 10 million tons, with China accounting for more than 40% (only 115 billion yuan in 2023 and 292.76 billion yuan in 2027).

2. Supply side: dual game of production capacity and technology

Expansion boom and import dependence coexist

Domestic leading companies (such as Yongjie New Materials) are accelerating expansion, but core equipment for high-end automotive aluminum sheets still needs to be imported.

6000 series aluminum plates (accounting for 60% of the body materials) have become the focus of technical research.

Cost transmission pressure is evident

The import price of bauxite has fallen by 33% this year (Guinea ore to US$71/ton), but the sensitivity of electrolytic aluminum electricity prices still restricts profits.

3. Signals of industrial chain reconstruction

Regional competition is fierce: Shandong and Jiangsu have significant cluster effects, and the cost advantage of Yunnan green power aluminum projects is prominent;

Trade barrier risks: The United States plans to impose a 50% tariff on aluminum products, forcing export-oriented manufacturers to turn to local supporting.
