7075-T6 Aluminum Alloy: Ultra-High Strength for Critical Applications

7075 aluminum is one of the strongest aluminum alloys, boasting aerospace-grade strength and remarkable fatigue resistance. As a zinc-based alloy, it is resistant to high stress while staying lightweight, making it perfect for precision components, structural parts, and high-performance engineering applications.

7075-T6 aluminum alloy, supplied by GNEE, is a premium high-strength material widely used in demanding applications such as aerospace and high-performance engineering. It delivers outstanding mechanical properties, with a typical yield strength of approximately 480–500 MPa (70–73 ksi) and an ultimate tensile strength ranging from 510 to 570 MPa (74–83 ksi). These strength levels are comparable to certain steels while offering a significantly superior strength-to-weight ratio. However, the alloy in the T6 condition can be susceptible to stress corrosion cracking if not properly protected.

Typical Strength Properties

Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS): ~510–570 MPa (74,000–83,000 psi)

Yield Strength: ~480–503 MPa (69,000–73,000 psi)

Shear Strength: ~330 MPa (48,000 psi)

Brinell Hardness: ~150 HBW

Why 7075-T6 Is So Strong

The T6 temper consists of solution heat treatment followed by artificial aging. This process forms fine strengthening precipitates (η and η′ phases) within the aluminum matrix, significantly increasing strength and bringing the alloy close to its peak performance level.

Key Characteristics of 7075-T6

Exceptional Strength-to-Weight Ratio
Provides steel-like strength at a much lower weight, making it ideal for aerospace structures.

High-Performance Capability
Commonly used in aircraft components, precision machinery, and other structurally critical parts.

Corrosion Considerations
The T6 temper may be prone to stress-corrosion cracking, so protective coatings or surface treatments are often recommended.
