Alloy 5083 aluminum plate sheet is a non-heat-treatable alloy with 4½% magnesium, 0.15% chromium, and 0.7% manganese. It is widely available in flat-rolled plate from several mills. Like all of the 5000-series high-magnesium alloys, 5083 acquires a high strength by cold working, allowing a sequence of "H" tempers.
5083 is a marine-grade aluminum. 5083 Plate The most generally used temper for 5083 aluminum sheet is H321, which has a thickness of 3-200mm and a width of 1500-2600mm. It is commonly used for ship engine bases, ship decks, ship sides, bottom outer plates, and covering the hulls of yachts and cruise ships, among others.

 

5083-H321 aluminum is 5083 aluminum with the H321 temper. To obtain this temper, the metal is strain hardened and then stabilized to a strength about a quarter of the way between annealed (O) and full-hard (H38).
5083 Aluminum plate has strong corrosion resistance; the corrosion rate in seawater is very slow, and the uniform corrosion rate is normally 0.025-0.05mm/year, allowing the ship to resist corrosion from seawater and marine atmosphere, lowering oil and maintenance costs and providing a long service life.
5083 marine aluminum alloy plate has strong strength and low fracture toughness, making it perfect for hull structure material. Low fracture toughness is a key factor in ship safety.

 

Aluminium 5083 is noted for its outstanding performance in harsh situations. 5083 is extremely resistant to assault from both marine and industrial chemical conditions.
Alloy 5083 also keeps its excellent strength after welding. It has the strongest strength among non-heat treatable alloys, however it is not recommended for usage at temperatures above 65°C.
