Overview
The 5083 H321 aluminum plate is a high-strength, corrosion-resistant aluminum-magnesium alloy plate. It achieves an optimal balance of mechanical performance and corrosion resistance through a combination of cold working hardening and stabilized annealing.
As a 5xxx series alloy, 5083 is primarily alloyed with magnesium (Mg: 4.0–4.9%), providing high strength while retaining excellent ductility. It also contains manganese (Mn: 0.4–1.0%) to enhance grain structure and corrosion resistance and chromium (Cr: 0.05–0.25%) to improve resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
Weldability and Applications
5083 H321 aluminum plate is highly weldable, making it suitable for manufacturing ship hulls, deck plates, offshore oil and gas equipment, and pressure vessels where both high strength and corrosion resistance are essential.
Comparison with 5083 H112
While 5083 H112 has slightly lower strength compared to H321, it offers better ductility, with elongation ranging from approximately 15% to 25%, which allows for easier forming through bending, stamping, and rolling. Typical applications of H112 include storage tanks, chemical equipment, automotive parts, and structural components that require good formability but not extremely high strength.
Ship decks, engine pedestals, ship sides, ship bottom outer plates, and other components frequently employ 5083 H321 aluminum plate, which is a member of the Al-Mg alloy. For luxury vessels like cruise ships, LNG tankers, and fast boats, it is the material of choice.

Corrosion Resistance
Exfoliation Corrosion: Plates in H116 and H321 condition must show no Class E exfoliation corrosion after testing. For applications involving marine hulls or long-term seawater exposure, PB corrosion must not appear after testing, as per GB/T 22639.
Intergranular Corrosion: For H116 and H321 plates, the maximum intergranular corrosion depth must not exceed Grade 3, tested according to GB/T 7998.
