What is the difference between 5086 H116 and 5052 H32 aluminum

Nov 13, 2025

The 5086 H116 aluminum plate is a typical 5xxx series alloy known for its high strength, achieved through strain hardening (cold working) associated with the H116 temper. This temper also provides excellent resistance to exfoliation corrosion. The mechanical properties of 5086 H116 vary depending on the degree of hardening. In practice, it demonstrates outstanding workability, formability, and weldability, making it widely used in welded constructions, tank trucks, automotive parts, tread plates, and particularly marine applications.

Features of GNEE 5086 H116 Aluminum Plate

Cold Working:
5086 H116 aluminum is a non-heat-treatable alloy. Its strength and mechanical properties are enhanced by cold working, and it can be easily processed using conventional methods.

Corrosion Resistance:
H116 tempered 5086 is a typical marine-grade aluminum alloy, offering excellent resistance to corrosion in highly humid environments such as seawater and atmospheric exposure.

Welding:
This alloy exhibits very good weldability using standard welding techniques, maintaining high post-weld strength.

Other Features:
5086 aluminum has a soft texture and a low density of 2.66 g/cm³, yet its strength surpasses that of 5052 and 5083 alloys.
