1. Material standards and basic characteristics
‌Material correspondence‌: AMS-4037 specification corresponds to 2024 aluminum alloy (AlCu4Mg1), which is a high-strength hard aluminum alloy designed for aviation structural parts. The strength can be further improved through heat treatment (T351/T42 state).
‌Core advantages‌: High specific strength and lightweight (density 2.78g/cm³), suitable for load-bearing parts such as wing skins, fuselage frames, etc.

2.Chemical Composition and Strengthening Mechanism

Copper (Cu) 3.8% – 4.9% Forms the θ (CuAl₂) strengthening phase
Magnesium (Mg) 1.2% – 1.8% Forms the S (Al₂CuMg) strengthening phase

Total Impurities ≤ 0.5% Strict control over impurities (e.g., Fe, Si) to maintain material performance

3.3. Mechanical properties
‌Tensile strength‌: After quenching + aging (T351 state), it can reach 470-520MPa, and the fatigue limit is significantly better than ordinary aluminum;
‌Elongation‌: About 12%-15% in O state, and reduced to 5%-8% after cold work hardening.
4. Processing and welding technology
‌Formability‌
The cold rolling process can be processed into 0.5-50mm thick plates, supporting precision stamping and stretching;
The cutting performance is medium, and carbide tools need to be used after annealing to reduce the sticking phenomenon.
‌Welding restrictions‌
Gas welding/argon arc welding is prone to cause intergranular cracks, and resistance welding or stir friction welding (FSW) is recommended.
5. Surface treatment and corrosion resistance
‌Anti-corrosion measures‌:
Anodizing (film thickness 10-25μm) or painting (epoxy primer + polyurethane topcoat) to improve salt spray resistance;
Aluminum coating (outer layer covered with pure aluminum) is used in high humidity or marine environments.
6. Typical application areas
‌Aerospace structure‌: fuselage skin, wing beam, landing gear support components;
‌Industrial field‌: high-load molds, hydraulic system high-pressure vessels.
7. Inspection Specifications
‌Nondestructive testing requirements‌: Ultrasonic testing (UT) to ensure that there are no cracks or inclusions inside;
‌Coating inspection‌:
Adhesion cross-cutting test (≥GB/T 9286-1998 Level 0);
Salt spray test ≥1000 hours without substrate corrosion.
8. Precautions for use
‌Transportation and storage‌: Film + wooden pallet packaging to prevent moisture and collision, and avoid direct contact of bare boards with corrosive media;
‌Service environment‌: Long-term exposure to pH <3 or >11 requires an increase in the thickness of the protective layer
